Snap Fitness began in 2003 when the founder Peter Taunton envisioned affordable 24/7 high quality gyms made easily accessible to people thanks to good locations around the world. It began franchising a year later in 2004 and since then has grown enormously now owning 2000 clubs in at least 18 countries around the world. Specifically to Europe, Snap Fitness is found in Belgium, Spain, Ireland and the UK.

It was the world’s first 24/7 gym and has gone on to be a winning brand around the world. It has been awarded with being in Entrepreneur’s top 500 franchises five years in a row. As well as that in 2015, Ernst and Young presented Peter Taunton with Entrepreneur of the year.

The Franchise System

Peter Taunton designed a very appealing turnkey operation to deal with franchising. His enthusiasm and financial aid and support franchisees receive means Snap Fitness is growing in popularity and more and more franchises are popping up.

The company provides new franchisees with a lot of financing help. Franchisees face low start up costs as in house financing usually covers the equipment plus the brand has connections with third party sources that often cover the franchise fee or other start-up costs. There are flat monthly rates in place but otherwise, the franchisee gets to keep all they make.

Training in the new franchisee involves initial training in Snap Fitness’ headquarters in Minnesota. This training lasts for four days and must be complete to the satisfaction of the franchiser.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Peter Taunton was a firm believer that something should be given back to the community. He valued the importance of strengthening one’s community as well as supporting people in their daily lives.

It 2015, Snap Fitness donated $100,000 to the Common House charity which was used to help children in Guatemala receive proper education.

Snap Fitness also celebrated getting 300,000 likes on Facebook by promising to spend that many hours working and supporting the community. This was derived from their Snap Serves campaign which encourages the clubs to get involved with their communities. Events would include sponsoring 5k runs and food drives etc.

News

In 2016, Snap Fitness launched a dating app. Snap Fitness was therefore not just helping people with their physical shape, they were helping develop relationships between members and further people’s happiness.

In early 2017, the company continued its expansions by settling a master franchise deal in Ireland.

As the year continued, Snap Fitness announced a master franchise agreement with India’s largest health club chains, Talwalkars Better Value Fitness. Through this partnership, Snap Fitness would be expanding into six more countries including, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
