Since 1993 Germany's second largest specialty chain for pet food and accessories has been recruiting franchise partners through an affiliation system. In 2013 alone, 6 new founders chose the concept DAS FUTTERHAUS. The concept benefits from years of experience, a global approach and a network of strong partners from trade and finance.
With a uniquely large and wide range of products, competent advice and a good presence in the market, DAS FUTTERHAUS has taken its place in the hearts of pet lovers. Shopping in speciality stores as an alternative to supermarkets is a clear trend offering attractive growth opportunities in the retail sector.
In the stores with the yellow dog, the animal comes first. 45,000 listed items, including all major brand products and attractive own-brand labels, make it possible to meet almost any customer’s needs. The range of products in individual sites will vary, depending on the market size, from 5,000 selected products to the full assortment of 14,000 products.
The classic DAS FUTTERHAUS store has 500 m2 to 1,500 m² of retail space and is located in big retail centers specifically created to attract a high volume of customers or close to an exit of a motorway or a carriage way. Starting from a retail space of 650 m², the store will usually have an integrated department for live animals. Stores of up to 1000 m² retail space generally have a terrarium, a rodent and a bird department. In the bigger stores, reptile ponds and seawater aquarium departments can be integrated as well. Further optional product ranges are fishing and horse riding.
In order to guarantee animal lovers maximum expertise, DAS FUTTERHAUS has been cooperating successfully with different experts in the pet sector for years, including veterinarians, animal shelters, animal trainers, tour operators and even pet insurance. In this way, the retail chain has successfully positioned itself as a competent store for pet animals on the market since its founding in 1987.
In 2011 DAS FUTTERHAUS Group opened 29 stores and generated sales of €217.4 million. Thus, the company was able to increase its sales by 9.5 percent (2010: €196.4 million).
In 2012, further expansion is planned hand in hand with associates and new partners. 35 new locations are planned to be opened.
To become a partner of DAS FUTTERHAUS, 15 to 20 percent equity capital and a business education are required.
