Why is your business a smart franchise investment for entrepreneurs?
We live in a very dynamic world and when creating our franchise concept, we kept in mind how we want to address today’s coffee-consumer behaviours, make the brand accessible, and at the same time present a strong financial model for the franchisee.
People love having coffee to go. A mobile coffee sales point allows you to reach places with the highest traffic and conversion potential. We know that food trucks are often unwelcome in cities due to ever stricter environmental norms, so we came up with an eco-version of mobile coffee sales with a design that will fit alike to historical old town area, a square surrounded by skyscrapers and a beautiful green landscape of a park.
Bike Café is a small investment franchise where you operate on high-margin goods. We have put our bet on specialty coffee (i.e., the highest bean quality) because we have never wanted to be this ‘quick emergency coffee’, but instead create a highly valued experience for our customers and build up loyalty.
What do you look for in a potential franchisee?
We don’t require any specific past experiences. If you like great coffee and bicycles, you’re probably our type of person, but on the other hand, we have successful franchisees who don’t fit this pattern at all. If you’ll be the barista behind the counter, you definitely want to have an outgoing attitude and be a people person.
What does the initial training process look like for new franchisees?
You will be invited to a dedicated 3-day training, which takes place in our HQ in Poland. Alternatively, we can do online training, but we care a lot about quality, so this option is available if you are already an experienced barista (taste and smell experiences don’t pass well through the internet). The training covers a few scopes including business (sales, marketing), equipment (procedures, maintenance) and of course – coffee (we will teach you how to make a perfect espresso and latte art no matter what).
What ongoing support is provided to franchisees?
We take care of a vast extent of supplies the franchisee needs: coffee beans, cups, syrups, chocolate etc. Our marketing team sets up the commercial channels and helps to create local content whenever needed. Our service team handles all the technical issues of the equipment. The sales team also helps with logistics and licenses (usually, a permit is needed to operate in public with this type of business). Any possible issue you might have will be addressed, and we will not stop until it’s resolved.
How do you help franchisees achieve a work-life balance?
This is what we excel at! With Bike Café, you won’t have any imposed working hours or working days. Want to do full-time? Sure! Only available during weekends? No problem! Bike Café is a very flexible franchise where the only royalties are included in the price of coffee beans. In other words – you only pay us when you know you will sell.
What plans do you have for the franchise over the next few years?
We want to keep entering new markets, also outside of Europe. Recently the brand celebrated a 10-year anniversary and we’re sure that we’re ready for this step. As our team grows, we have more and more ideas on things we want to develop, to support our existing franchisees and help them grow too, with more units. But let’s keep these as secrets for now :)
